After laying flat on his back since Tuesday Daniel started his physio programme today. In the morning I was shown how to move him from his bed to the wheelchair without hurting his back. Daniel spent half an hour in his chair and we went out on to the terrace garden on floor 8 for a few minutes and it was pleasant to be outside for the first time since Monday. He slept for an hour after due to the effort.
This afternoon Daniel was back in to the wheelchair for a short session stretching in the physio suite on floor 4. Although he was very wobbly and tired it was possible to see an improvement in his posture in the chair over just half an hour as we came back to floor 12.
Daniel was very uncomfortable afterwards and seemed to experience the most pain he has felt this week. He felt better after more painkillers but in typical articulate style he told me what he thought, "That physio gave me a gift.....bloody nothing!".
